Environment Michigan Fall Report

Victory: Governor signs
water-use protections into law

Years of work by Environment Michigan staff and allies culminated in victory in February, when the Legislature passed the state’s first-ever prohibitions of out-of-control water withdrawals. The new rules are a significant step toward preserving healthy waterways for future generations.
Gov. Jennifer Granholm signs into law the first comprehensive regulation of water withdrawals. Environment Michigan’s Kelly Dardzinski and Mike Shriberg, right, joined her.
