Restore Clean Water Act Protections

What's New

On June 18, the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee approved the Clean Water Restoration Act (S.787) to ensure that all of our rivers, streams and wetlands are once again protected from polluters.

Now we are working to get a similar bill introduced in and passed through the House.

How You Can Help

Tell your representative in the House to make sure that the Great Lakes and all of our rivers, lakes, and streams are protected by the Clean Water Act.

Background

The Great Lakes are Worth Protecting

The Great Lakes are irreplaceable treasures -- creating lasting memories for our families, adding enjoyment to our lives, and providing us with drinking water.

Each summer Michiganders and people across the region come to enjoy our beautiful waters. When the lakes provide us with so much, why on earth are we letting polluting industries dump into the streams that feed them?

To defend the Great Lakes, Environment Michigan is asking our members of Congress to support the Clean Water Restoration Act.

The Great Lakes need our help

The Great Lakes can only be as clean as the streams and wetlands that clean and feed them. But recent Supreme Court decisions gutted 30 years of protections provided by the Clean Water Act, effectively writing an estimated 48 percent of Michigan's streams right out of the law.

Environment Michigan is working to restore these protections to all of our waters, but big polluters and their allies in Congress are trying to stop us. That's why we're calling on our state's congressional delegation to stand up for the Great Lakes by supporting the Clean Water Restoration Act.
