The Hiawatha and Ottawa
National Forests are in
jeopardy, and we need your help to save them.
Michiganders like you have visited these national forests and hiked
along the miles of lake shore, viewed the breathtaking waterfalls, seen the
wildflowers that grow in abundance and shared in the uniqueness of the largest
forest system east of the Mississippi.
Instead of taking bold steps to protect the most wild places
within our national forests, the Bush Administration is proposing to open up
these federally designated roadless areas to development of roads, which in
turn will lead to logging and mining in the most pristine areas of our state.
However, there is still time to make your voice heard to
protect these natural wonders. Please take the time to ask Governor Granholm to
petition the federal government to protect 100 percent of the 16,000 acres of
national forest land designated under the original Roadless Conservation Rule
of 2001.
