Ask Gov. Granholm to urge the DEQ to deny Kennecott's permit
Kennecott
Minerals Company wants to open a hazardous sulfide mine in a beautiful,
ecologically sensitive area of the Upper Peninsula, directly beneath a
premiere trout stream. The Department of Environmental Quality is
currently deciding whether to grant Kennecott’s permit application,
which contains inadequate assurances that their operations will not
harm the area’s pristine air, water, and land.
Please take a
moment to ask Gov. Granholm to urge the DEQ to deny Kennecott’s
permit. Then ask your family and friends to help by forwarding this
e-mail to them.

Preserving Michigan’s WildernessIn 2006 we were joined by 8,000 citizens in asking Gov. Granholm to
protect our public lands from logging, mining and development. As a
result, the state passed laws curbing sales of park land and committed
to creating at least three new protected areas. Read more.
