Tell us about your community's efforts toward low-impact development
Development is one of the biggest threats facing
the Great Lakes and inland waterways. Fortunately, low-impact
development—which
preserves native vegetation and prevents stormwater flows that cause
flooding,
erosion, and carries pollutants into waterways—can protect the
environment
and local water quality.
In 2006 we were joined by 8,000 citizens in asking Gov. Granholm to
protect our public lands from logging, mining and development. As a
result, the state passed laws curbing sales of park land and committed
to creating at least three new protected areas. Read more.
